Page 20 — 2007–2008 Education Catalog COUNTED THREAD FINISHING TECHNIQUES Teacher: Pat Donaldson The purpose of this class – like sampler classes of old – is to give the student a repertoire of finishing techniques to be used as finished edges for future counted thread pieces. The stitches and techniques taught are done as small pieces to attach to the corresponding pages in the notebook. Techniques include: hemstitching, hems with mitered corners, fringing, ladder and zigzag hemstitching, simple and fancy buttonhole edges, three- and four-sided stitch, a simple picot edge, the nun’s stitch, and two finished turning edges. Techniques taught also include mitering corners and the proper removal/weaving back of threads to form openwork channels. The notebook samples are done on a variety of fabrics, fibers, and counts for learning purposes. After completion of this course, you should be able to select and stitch a finished edge to give your counted thread projects a very professional look. FILET GUIPURE NEEDLEWEAVING ON SQUARE NET: AINTRODUCTION Teacher: Kathleen Rake This course is an introduction to needlewoven lace known as filet guipure. It uses a variety of needleweaving stitches combining dif- ferent thickness of threads on square handmade or machine-made net. You will make samples of stitches, construct your own net, and stitch the project provided or one of your own designs utilizing the stitched samples. This exciting technique could be used for doilies, tablecloths, tray or pillow inserts, curtains, framed pictures, or for clothing (to be appliquéd or inserted). LESSON 1. Discussion of supplies, possible substitutes, techniques, hints, plus a brief history, bibliography, glossary, and a small project introducing the technique.
