The text will present various ways to achieve the look of a desired texture. By taking rubbings of many surfaces, the student will see patterns and textures emerge and dis- cover how these rubbings can be adapted to stitching. To emphasize the desired textures, only white threads will be used. The student will be encouraged to be creative. LESSON 1.  A discussion of basic design with the emphasis on texture. Rubbings of many surfaces will be taken. LESSON 2.  Various types of threads and stitches and the role they play in texture will be discussed, leading to practicing sample stitches relating to the rubbings completed in Lesson 1. LESSON 3. The student will stitch a design, either one provided or an original, combining the textures from the rubbings and using selected white threads. Prerequisites: Intermediate to advanced canvas skills Time: Six months Fee: $100.00 Text: $15.00 Supplies (approximate): $30.00-$50.00 depending on thread choices Stitched by LaMona Brown TEACHING EMBROIDERY TO CHILDREN: A SHARED, CREATIVE EXPERIENCE Teacher: Barbara Herring This course is designed to aid and prepare the adult to teach cre- ative embroidery to children, ages 6-12, as a volunteer or profes- sional. Individual, original designs of the children will be used for the students to follow in the course. Booklet includes information on stitches and techniques that work well with young stitchers, teaching methods, creativity exercises, and supplying classes for children. Prepared lesson plans and an annotated bibliography are to be included. LESSON 1. The adult student will interpret and stitch a child’s drawing. The adult will work with one child or a group of children as they interpret their drawings into needlework. LESSON 2. Teach embroidery to a child or a group of children from one of the prepared lesson plans in the course booklet. LESSON 3.  Write and teach an original embroidery lesson to a child or a group of children. Prerequisites: None Time: One year Fee: $100.00 Text: $25.00 Supplies (approximate): Allow $5.00 per child per lesson. Suggestions are included in the booklet.
