Hardanger design goes where you never thought it could go. This course will stretch your creativity, imagination, and skill. You will learn that Hardanger does not always have to be traditional, monochromatic, and sym- metrical. Hardanger can be in rainbow colors, asymmetrical design, on painted, decorated, and nontraditional ground. It can be art. The foundation of the course is based on the traditional Hardanger stitches, but with some research and exploration, new ideas will flow. For the spirited and freewheeling, this course is full of fun and challenge. Let the adventure begin! LESSON 1.  A review and exploration of published sources for traditional American and classical Norwegian Hardanger. Student will plan and execute small original pieces in both styles. LESSON 2. The basics of designing nontraditional Hardanger are the centerpiece of this lesson, including the rules of Hardanger and how to break them. The student continues research on Hardanger with a short written assignment. LESSON 3. The culmination of the two previous lessons is an opportunity to design and execute an original nontraditional Hardanger work of art.
