00010 Spanish Sampler

By Maria de las Anggrasida y Tapis (age 7) 1817

Counted silk on linen sampler worked across the full width of the handwoven linen with selvedge at each side and hemmed top and bottom; design consists of two columns of equal width divided vertically by a small column of fishbone embroidery stitch in a neutral silk thread; surface stitched rows on the left are done in variations of satin stitch and those on the right side are variations of cross stitch.
