Fiber Forum
Fiber Forum was organized in 1992 in order to advance embroidery as an art form through the exhibition of original works of exceptional merit. To this end, the group endeavors to have a biennial exhibit in art centers, galleries, or museums throughout the country. It also exhibits annually at the National Seminar in the Education Exhibit.
New Members are juried in each year by accredited judges on the basis of both aesthetic achievement and technical skill. Members are juried through digital photos of original, non-teaching pieces. To remain a member of Fiber Forum requires re-jurying at least every three years with digital photo submissions of members’ new work. This procedure encourages each person to set a learning challenge and helps to attain personal goals. Upon acceptance, the membership fee is $25.00 annually.
EGA members interested in keeping abreast of the activities of Fiber Forum may become a member of Fiber Forum Friends. The Fiber Forum Friends as well as members receive dates for Fiber Forum jurying, exhibits, and other news. To become a Friend, sign up on line by using the link to the right, or send your name, address, membership and telephone numbers, e-mail address, chapter name, and region, together with $10.00 check (payable to EGA), or Visa/MasterCard #, expiration date, and signature to EGA National Headquarters. Please indicate “Fiber Forum Friend.” Fiber Forum Friends is open to any EGA member.

Weaving and felting fiber artist Geri Forkner is known for her techniques in nuno felting, a wet felting method combing silk and wool fibers. “Geri has taught weaving and felting at John C. Campbell, Arrowmont. In January of 2011 she went to Bangkok, Thailand to teach a work-shop at the Rangsit University in the Fashion Design Department and have a Textile Exhibit. Geri teaches fiber arts classes regionally, nationally, and internationally to both children and adults. She is the recipient of an Artist-In-The-Schools grant, and is the dynamic force behind Tennessee Presents Textiles, a fashion show comprising the works of both up-and-coming and seasoned fiber artists. She is a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild. Geri cherishes the old traditions and skills while using innovative ways to push the boundaries as she creates felted and woven works of art from her textile studio in Tennessee.” Quoted from the Geri Forkner Weaving Arts Studio website.
Geri will focus our workshop on “Felted Surfaces for Embroiderers'” and guide us as we create a number of textured surfaces that will be perfect base for embellishment. We will laminate colorful merino wool fiber to all textures and weights of silk and cotton cloth using a wet felting process known as nuno felting. Our pieces will range from light as feathers to heavy weight solid fabric allowing for surface embellishment that can be applied by hand stitching with yarns or beads, free motion machine embroidery, or embellisher machine.
