2017 EGA CHALLENGE
Featuring Shirley Kay Wolfersperger
The Challenge: Breaking New Ground
Consultant: Shirley Kay Wolfersperger, a well known artist, teacher, contributing editor to NeedleArts, author and curator of embroidery art shows.
The challenge this year is to breakout of your normal pattern of stitching and to try new things, starting with the background that you chose to work on for the challenge. Shirley Kay is also wanting participants to dig deep and let your inner light shine by using new and different color scheme, new and different threads and even trying some mixed media techniques that are compatible with textiles. She would also like for you to consider and use a new and different finishing technique. The design should be 10"-12" square. For more information and details go to the December issue of NeedleArts for specific criteria.
Registration opens January 4, 2017 and closes March 31, 2017.
Proposal for Challenge with a Twist project mailed to consultant by July 1, 2017. It is fine to send it earlier.
Final stitched piece mailed to consultant by September 1, 2017.
*Challenge may appeal to the more self-assured designer. A theme is given, and the choice of technique(s) is up to the participant. When the piece is worked, it is sent to the consultant for one evaluation. This evaluation will reinforce good color and design choices. and will suggest ways to achieve better results on future pieces by indicating how and why changes might be made.
*Challenge with a Twist is for the embroiderer who would like some design direction from a consultant. The Twist is that the design is sent to the consultant for feedback before it is stitched. You may send designs earlier than the deadline.
or complete and mail the Registration Form.
